     Nguyen Tien Thao was born in Hanoi, Vietnam in May of 1977. After leaving High School, he enrolled as a chemistry student at the VNU University of Science in route to earning a Bachelor in Chemistry. After graduating in 1999, Thao pursued a master program at VNU University of Science and studied on the aromatization of LPG. Two years latter, he got a Master Degree in Chemistry. In 2003, Thao moved to Canada to study hetergenous catalysis at Laval University and earned a PhD degree in chemical engineering in 2007. Then, he had been to Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech, USA) to work on transition metal sulfide catalytic materials and syngas conversion for two years. He returned as a lecturer at VNU University of Science in the summer of 2010. Dr. Thao was appointed to be the head of Petrochemistry department. He was promoted the vice dean of Chemistry Faculty in 2013 and the deputy director of VNU Academic Affairs Department in 2015.

Research interests

     Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao directs motivate research programs concentrated primarily on nanomaterial catalysis, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, biodiesel synthesis, selective oxidation of unsaturated compounds. His research group has published more than 80 publications, 3 text books, and 2 US patents. Dr. Thao is currently a reviewer board member of several International Journals.
